Hello, everyone. My name is Dustin Gent. I'm the Founder and Executive Director of The Rescue Ministries Inc.
On July 28th of 2014, I will turn 40. And I would love to make a selfish request. For 3 years our orphanage has gone without a Jeepney. A jeepney is a vehicle that will safely transport our kids to and from school and community events that the orphanage is apart of in Cebu. For almost a year now, we have borrowed from businesses and used public transportation which has cost us a fortune to do.
I have over 3,000 friends and quickly approaching 4,000 on Facebook. I would like each of you to save 50 cents a day. Throw it in a jar or every other day put a dollar bill in an envelope. If you seriously do this, you will have COLLECTIVELY raised and given to a nonprofit (that is tax deductible for you) $160,000.
If you were to give $40 for my birthday on July 28, not only will I be able to buy transportation for our kids, but we will be able to purchase the property where we are currently renting as well. We could potentially be able to build where we can rescue more kids from being trafficked and victimized. You could be a part of eliminating modern day slavery and ending cycles of abuse and poverty. Even if you are in grade school don't take this as something that you can't do. I would be quite surprised if you can't save 50 cents a day.
However, if you truly do not have the means to donate, I would ask that you commit to 40 minutes of prayer for our ministry on July 28. Prayer is the most important gift you could give these children. I would so kindly ask that you would block our 40 minutes of your day to pray for our kids.
I have NO desire to celebrate my 40 years of living by blowing money on food and cards that will end up in the trash. Please share my challenge as I anticipate exceeding the goal of $160,000. I am just curious as to how far God can touch hearts and to just how many lives HE can impact by celebrating not my birthday but the orphanage where youth who have lived lives of abuse and neglect are now learning about the love of Christ.
